Mountain Bike Skills 


During camps and classes, riders will be coached by trained Bike School Bentonville  coaches on a variety of mountain bike skills so they can become safe and confident riders. Fundamental Skills include:

  • Ready/neutral position for descending hills
  • Side/Side bike body separation
  • Pedaling/shifting efficiently
  • Controlling speed and braking safely
  • Cornering confidently
  • Handling obstacles and rocky terrain
  • Riding with vision
  • Ratcheting and momentum

Participants will be tested at the end of the session on different bike skills and will be able to move up in levels if they progress through additional tests throughout the season. For a full description of our mountain bike skill level progression, view the skills level descriptions.

About Bike School Bentonville Classes

Bike School Bentonville classes offer mountain bike programs for beginner to advanced riders. Youth ages 7-13 will explore the single-track trails at Slaughter Pen Trails while gaining skills they can use for a lifetime! The focus of the mountain bike program is to have fun, meet new friends, and build confidence riding the single track trails. The programs offer mixed gender coaching groups based on riding ability level and meet twice a week to offer significant progression and fun over the course of the classes. 

Weekend Bike School Skills Classes

Saturdays and Sundays

Head for the trails with Bike School Bentonville's Weekend Day Camps! Purchase a single day pass, a 6 punch pass, or a 12 punch pass to use whenever you like. Our Weekend Day Camps offer mountain biking classes for riders of all ages, from beginner to advanced skill levels. Participants will be divided into groups based on ability, fitness, and age. Each day, they’ll explore the single-track trails in Slaughter Pen while developing skills and confidence on their mountain bikes. Our mixed gender coaches provide top-notch instruction while fostering a fun and supportive environment. We are certain you will gain skills, confidence and memories that will last a lifetime!

WHEN: Weekend Day Camps are held on both Saturday and Sunday 1-3 pm until May 1st (weather permitting). Time is 9-11 am during summer months, May through September.

WHERE: Check-in at the Bike School Bentonville Field just north of Hidden Springs Dialysis Center (3000 NW A St, Bentonville, AR 72712). We ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the program start time to check-in.

WEATHER PROTOCOL: In the event of class cancellation due to inclement weather, we can transfer your reservation to another day or issue a refund.

COST: Single day pass is $75

After purchasing the 6 or 12 day punch passes, you will receive a promo code that acts as your "punch pass". Enter the promo code to your cart when booking a Weekend Day Camp. Each day booked counts as one punch towards your pass. Punch passes can apply to multiple members in the same family.

REQUIREMENTS: Mountain bike in good, functioning condition (Front and rear wheel brakes on handlebars, no pedal/coaster brakes or kickstands allowed, Gears shift properly, Inflated tires, Plugs in both handlebar ends), Properly fitting helmet, Tires must have tread and be wide enough to ride safely on mountain bike trails, Riders must carry their own hydration pack or water bottle in bottle cage, Appropriate riding attire, Closed toe shoes

SUGGESTIONS: Gloves, Protective gear (knee pads, elbow pads, etc.), Snacks, Eye protection/sunglasses, Dress by season (moisture wicking fabric in summer, warm layers in winter, etc.), Bug spray, Sunblock

Fall 2023 8 Week Trail Kids

Join us this fall as we embark on a new season of Trail Kids! Bike School Bentonville's Fall Trail Kids offers mountain biking classes for all kids ages 7-13, from beginner to advanced skill levels. Participants will be divided into groups based on ability, fitness, and age. Each week, they’ll explore the single-track trails of Slaughter Pen while developing skills and confidence on their mountain bikes. Our mixed gender coaches provide top-notch instruction while fostering a fun and supportive environment for riders. We are certain your child will gain skills, confidence and memories that will last a lifetime!

Note* Participants may request to join groups with a friend(s), if skill levels match.

WHEN: Twice weekly on Monday & Wednesday, 5:30pm - 7pm, beginning August 28 and ending October 25. We will NOT meet Labor Day or Fall Break (10/16).

WHERE: Check-in at the Bike School Bentonville Field just north of Hidden Springs Dialysis Center (3000 NW A St, Bentonville, AR 72712). We ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the program start time to check-in.

WEATHER PROTOCOL: In the event of class cancellation due to inclement weather, we will use the following scheduled rainout dates: October 30, November 1, 6, & 8.

COST: $600, with a 50% deposit required at the time of booking. The remaining balance will be charged to the card on file 24 hours prior to the first scheduled session. You also have the option to pay in full beforehand through your client terminal.

The Fall Trail Kids programs are only available as full season packages and are not eligible for purchase as individual sessions.

Participants will need their own mountain bike, helmet, and water bottle carrier to participate. Bikes need to have front and back wheel brakes on the handle bars (no pedal brakes or kickstands allowed). Tires must have tread and be wide enough to ride safely on mountain bike trails. 

Trail Kids classes are ages 7 – 13, beginner to advanced abilities welcome (we split into different coaching groups based on ability, fitness, age, and friend request – friends who are of different riding abilities may not be placed together). 

Ride Time is for for ages 13-17, beginner to advanced abilities are welcome. The focus of ride time is getting more time riding the trails in a coached environment.
